چکیده

Herein, the fatigue damage mechanisms of a low-alloyed 0.5 wt% carbon steel (50CrMo4) are examined in high cycle and very regime, taking into account different strength conditions. For this purpose, heat treatment material is conducted using two batches at tempering temperatures, which lead to hardnesses 37HRC 57HRC, respectively. The tests accounting for test frequencies f = 95 Hz 20 kHz, as well size effects. It found that behavior tempered 50CrMo4 can be subdivided type I (surface cracks) II (internal VHCF depending on condition. With aid situ equipment, influence microstructural banding local demonstrated by high-resolution thermography. By implementing an ultrasonic testing machine scanning electron microscope, development fine granular area (FGA) artificial defect vacuum atmosphere demonstrated.

Effect of Low Cycle Fatigue Predamage on Very High Cycle Fatigue Behavior of TC21 Titanium Alloy

The effect of low cycle fatigue (LCF) predamage on the subsequent very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) behavior is investigated in TC21 titanium alloy. LCF predamage is applied under 1.8% strain amplitude up to various fractions of the expected life and subsequent VHCF properties are determined using ultrasonic fatigue tests. Results show that 5% of predamage insignificantly affects the VHCF limit du...

Monitoring of Metal Fatigue Damage Using Acoustic Emission and Thermography

Acoustic emission (AE) supplies information on the fracture behavior of different materials. In this study, AE activity was recorded in metal coupons with a V-shape notch, which were loaded in fatigue until final failure. AE parameters exhibit a sharp increase approximately 1000 cycles before final failure. The use of AE parameters is discussed both in terms of characterization of the damage me...

Energy-Based Prediction of Low-Cycle Fatigue Life of CK45 Steel and SS316 Stainless Steel

In this paper, low cycle fatigue life of CK45 steel and SS316 stainless steel under strain-controlled loading are experimentally investigated. In addition, the impact of mean strain and strain amplitude on the fatigue life and cyclic behavior of the materials are studied. Furthermore, it is attempted to predict fatigue life using energy and SWT damage parameters. The experimental results demons...

High Cycle Fatigue Property of Carburized 20Cr Gear Steel under Axial Loading

Abstract: The high cycle fatigue property of carburized 20Cr gear steel was experimentally investigated under axial loading with a stress ratio of zero. The test results show that this steel exhibits gradually decreasing S-N characteristics, and the fatigue strength corresponding to 109 cycles is about 455 MPa. Based on the observation of fracture surfaces, the interior inclusion fisheye-induce...

The Effect of High Cycle Fatigue Damage on Toughness of En8 Grade Steel Part Ii

Fatigue of metals is a subject of practical importance because many components and structures in service are subjected to varying loads and although the average stresses are often low, local concentration of stresses do not reduce the static strength but often lead to failure by fatigue. Micro-crack formation due to fatigue is more in ferritic-pearlitic annealed steel rather than in hardened an...
